Week 4 Fun

This week has been just as busy as the past 3 weeks. I can't believe 4 weeks of school has already passed.

Maths Kahoot

Over the past 4 weeks, we have been focusing on learning our basic facts by heart and increasing our speed and accuracy when answering.  As a fun activity, we all participated in a Basic Facts kahoot. The students thoroughly enjoyed this and are getting quicker with their responses.

Duck Duck Goose

As a reward for fantastic behaviour and the need to move, we went out for a game of Duck Duck Goose. Such great fun had by all.

Statistics

This week we started to talk about statistics. We looked at or favourite ice cream flavour and grouped the students accordingly. Next week we will look at how we can show this data.

Fruit flavoured ice cream - lime, strawberry, boysenberry, etc.

Chocolate Ice Cream

Cookies n Cream

Goody Goody Gum Drop

Doesn't like ice cream, or can't eat ice cream.

Can you see which flavour is the most liked in Te Tinana? Which one is the least liked flavour?

Tractor Trek - Big Feelings

Today we had the Tractor Trek group come into our school to share their very special message about big feelings. Kat shared with the students how we all have a range of feelings and sometimes, these feelings can grow bigger and bigger.  She reminded the students that it is okay to feel these feelings, but that it is okay to talk to someone about these feelings.  Sharing your feelings with an adult, family member, teacher or friend can help to make these feelings not as bad.

Often the students feel they are the only one that feels a particular way. She showed us that often we all have similar feelings and that we shouldn't feel alone.

The students loved going on the tractors and climbing in the cabs. What a great afternoon!

Taking out the scraps

This week, one of our reading groups (The Book Hoarders), were reading a journal article all about a boy who took out the food scraps to the garden and found a few weeks later, that pumpkin plants had started to grow.

So today 'The Book Hoarders' had a go at planting some of their very own pumpkin seeds, in hope that one day soon we will have our own pumpkin patch.  We talked about being safe around the potting mix, always wearing gloves and thoroughly washing our hands afterwards. The students watered their seeds and we placed them outside in a sunny spot to start sprouting.

Apologies Maz and Ryden, Mrs Davan wasn't quick enough to get photos of you two. 😢
